Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is used in conjunction with other therapies during a physiotherapy visit to help you feel your best.
Manual therapy is a hands-on approach used in physiotherapy and rehabilitation to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions. This therapeutic technique involves skilled hand movements to mobilize joints, manipulate soft tissues, and enhance the body’s natural healing processes. Our experienced physiotherapists integrate manual therapy with other research-based modalities to provide comprehensive care.
What is Manual Therapy?
Manual therapy includes a range of techniques designed to relieve pain, restore mobility, and improve function. These techniques involve direct physical contact and manipulation of the muscles, joints, and fascia.
Examples of Manual Therapy Techniques:
- Joint Mobilization: Gentle, controlled movements applied to the joints to increase range of motion and reduce stiffness.
- Soft Tissue Manipulation: Techniques such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy to alleviate muscle tension and enhance blood flow.
- Traction: A method that applies a gentle pulling force to decompress the spine or joints, alleviating pressure and pain, and improving mobility.
- Mobilization with Movement (MWM): Combines joint mobilization with active movement by the patient to enhance joint function and reduce pain.
